The Nuggets - Part III

Well, I don't really feel like I can put the BIG news off for much longer. I thought about torturing all of you with a post solely about pregnancy tidbits...but let's be honest, we all know why you really keep checking up on our blog. You want the juicy details of the doctor's appointment!

Before we go into those details you should all know...Ever since we found out we were pregnant, Tadd has joked that he thinks twin boys would be FANTASTIC! He would talk about it all the time. In fact, my sister and I as well as my mom and I had many conversations about "What if I had twins"...topics like "How would I nurse them BOTH?!" or "That is a LOT of diapers to change". Stuff like that. We would joke about how it was a possibility since there are twins on both sides of my family.

Not to mention that my six year old niece told us that she thought we would have two babies. When I asked her if she meant one now and one later, she said,
"No. Two now. There's two babies in Heaven waiting for you".

Now she's the type of six year-old that just might be that in tune with things, but she's also the type of six year-old that has a wild imagination and says random things all the time!

So twins has been the joke all along. But let's be honest...I'm not sure either one of us or anybody we joked with about it actually thought it was really going to happen.

We'd been counting down the days to our doctor's appointment. When I called to make it and they told me we had to wait until 10 weeks I was highly disappointed. I was all geared up to wait only 3 or so weeks for an eight week appt, but our doctor prefers to wait until 10 weeks...which meant FIVE whole weeks until we got in. It seemed like forever.

FINALLY, the day was here. I kept myself occupied that morning by hanging out with one of my bestest friends Tami and her little girl. We went to the mall and played on the playground, went to lunch...kept ourselves distracted. Apparently VERY well too, because as we got ready to head home so I could go pick up Tadd for the appointment I realized I had lost my keys. They were nowhere to be found! I panicked!

We looked through every pocket of my purse. Went back to the mall and searched. I called Tadd in a panic. The whole nine yards. Tami assured me if we couldn't find them she would just take us. We pulled into the parking lot of our condo and I was highly disappointed to not see the keys in the parking lot.

But don't you worry, when I looked up at our door...There were the keys! Hanging IN the door! Apparently I locked the deadbolt and scampered off to Tami's car without at thought. Thank goodness we have good neighbors who didn't steal 'em!

Anywho, that was just to share a little bit of my panic with you! Even if it was random and unnecessary information - it's a funny story. I hurried off to pick Tadd up from work and we were off to the doctor!!!

We checked in and got our paperwork to fill out. But before we could even fill in our address we got called back. Our doctor is fantastic! She came in and asked how I was feeling. When I told her "Terrific!" she looked a little skeptical, and had to double check I was having some pregnancy symptoms at least.

After chatting for a few minutes with her, we were off to the ultrasound room. She asked if we were ready to see the baby, and I jokingly looked at Tadd and said, "Baby. NOT BabiES!" She chuckled and asked if twins were possible. We told her they could be, that they ran on my side of the family.

"So, you could be next, huh?" She asked. We all kind of laughed. Then she told us, "It would be kind of funny. I just told my nurse today that I haven't diagnosed twins in a while!"

And with that we started the ultrasound. About 30 seconds into it, she let out a slow
"Oh my goodness!"

Like any pregnant lady I started to think of every possible terrible horrible thing that could be happening. She quickly wiped that fear away and said,
"Everything is fine! Don't worry" and with another chuckle,

"You ARE next in line!"

I'm pretty sure my heart stopped for about a minute. I looked at Tadd, he looked at me, we looked at the ultrasound. She told us we were in fact having TWINS! There were TWO heartbeats! See?

(She said the little black hole on the left was one heartbeat,
and the one on the lower part of the right was another)

I looked over at Tadd. He was now on the floor. Somehow he managed to fall OUT of his chair! Literally!

And in case you wondered how he would react?
The laughter began! There were once again tears on both of our cheeks, and Tadd was laughing! (Sound familiar?) :)
He laughed through the rest of the entire ultrasound.

So there you have it. We are having TWINS! The doctor said it looks like they are fraternal. Although she had a bit of a hard time telling if they were sharing a placenta or not. She ended up looking at where the umbilical cords inserted and said that they were far enough apart she really thought these twins were the
"less complicated" fraternal kind.

And here they are! Baby A and Baby B. Both exactly the same size with healthy heartbeats.

Two heads

Baby A

Baby B

Baby B - Heartbeat 161 beats per minute

Baby A - Heartbeat 165 beats per minute

There's our lil Nuggets. That's what we started calling them in case you hadn't guessed that by the titles of our posts.

And here's us after the doctor's appointment

 Putting our happy faces on...

But this is more like what our reaction was like when she first told us.

 Say what?!

And after the news sunk in a little more...this is how we were really feeling!

TWINS?!?!

It has been a roller coaster of emotions. They come in waves. First shock. Then overwhelmed. Terrified. Excited. Happy. Then back to Shock! There have been several text messages to Tadd that have simply said
"TWINS!! We are freaking having TWINS!"

And yes, ever since we found out, it is 'TWINS'
not just 'twins'. Because I kinda feel like it is something to be emphatic about. There is no saying it quietly. we are having TWINS! Yep. TWO babies.

But how awesome is that?! I mean really. We are ecstatic. We feel truly blessed. There are moments of terror and overwhelming feelings, but overall we are counting our blessings. Not only are we going to be blessed enough to have a baby of our own, but we get to have two precious gems join our family.

And just for good measure, here's a belly shot from after the doctor's visit. Because let's face it, there's no sense in hiding this belly now! There are TWINS in there!! TWO babies. So it's okay that I'm already showing.

So now that you got to hear the big news, don't just give up on us. We still have plenty of stories to share! How people reacted when we shared the news of TWINS, more pregnancy tidbits...All sorts of good stuff! Plus, pretty soon I will have projects to share. You didn't think we'd forgotten about being crafty around here did ya?

The Nuggets - Part II

Pregnancy is a very strange thing. Those of you who have been there know, and I don't have to tell you. For those of you haven't been there...it is weird! The body is amazing. That is for sure! But it is incredible how much impact something the size of a poppy seed can make on a person.

Honestly, I have SO much to be grateful for in this pregnancy. I have had zero morning sickness! Not so much as a tummy rumble.

I do get queasy a little more easily these days. Things that have never bothered me before now make me cringe just a little - like brushing my teeth, or watching gory TV shows - but other than that no actual "sickness".

I am a bit more picky about food - not because of cravings, but just because if it doesn't actually sound good or is something I want to eat, chewing it just sorta makes me gag!

Most of all I am TIRED a lot
Like a really lot. And I have started waking up a lot throughout the night.
I've been told that's just my body getting used to no sleep and having to wake up in the middle of the night - see, pregnancy is strange! Amazing, but still...a little strange.

But enough about my strangeness! On to the good stuff. Telling the world about our happy news!

If any of you know me at all, you know I am terrible with secrets! I literally get sick around Birthdays and Christmas because I hate them. I am getting better, it is true...but mostly, I'm just still terrible with secrets.

How I was going to keep this a secret for at least a month until our doctor's appointment was beyond me! I wanted to tell everyone - shout it from the rooftops - talk about it to anyone and everyone who would listen.

BUT, miscarriages run in my family - majorly! So we decided we would only tell those people we would tell if we miscarried. So of course, being terrible with secrets, I called my sister and my parents almost immediately!

Tadd on the other hand, is great with secrets - and he really wanted to be able to tell his parents in person. (Sorry Mom and Dad Dutton, I just couldn't keep it in long enough!)

Mom and Dad Ormond invited us to a Jazz game conference weekend - the perfect time to tell them! So, we got our thinking caps on and tried to come up with some fun way of giving them the news.

This is what we came up with.

In case you can't read the text on the picture, this is what it says:
Photo Paper - $1, Envelope - $.05, Gas to Deliver - $10.
The looks on your faces when you realize there are three of us in this picture...PRICELESS!!
Arriving November 2012

Tadd printed the picture off at work put it in an envelope, and on to Salt Lake we went. We got there a little later than planned due to traffic, so we met up with Mom and Dad O and hurried off to the game. The picture was burning a hole in my pocket...I couldn't wait the whole game to give it to them. I'd already waited a couple of weeks to tell! So we decided at half time, we would pass the picture along.

Luckily, we were at the game, and having my camera out was no big signal something was up. So we got their reaction on video!

Priceless indeed! Unfortunately my camera cut off right as the real reactions hit. There was screaming and hugs, tears and more hugs. I'm sure people all around us thought we were nuts, but who cares! We're having a baby!!!

As the weeks have gone by, we have filled in most of the immediate families. Still, we didn't want to tell everyone since there was still a risk of miscarrying. And to be honest, there still is a risk, which terrifies me! But, we just keep praying and doing everything we possibly can to make sure things go smoothly.

And p.s. See how I am doing so good at actually updating the blog with details?? Don't worry, much more info to come! We still have the REALLY big news to get to.

The Nuggets - Part I

Knowing we have some very BIG changes coming into our lives...I'm trying to do better now at creating habits before the chaos hits. Hoping that by making habits now, they will stick at least a little bit after our lives explode. One of those habits is updating our blog. We now have LOTS of people who want to know what's going on with the pregnancy, how we are doing - and when the munchkins get here, there will be even more news and pictures to share! So here goes...

Well, the secret is officially out of the bag! We are expecting in November. While we have actually known for a few weeks now, we were waiting until after our first doctor's appointment to officially spill the beans. Little did we know that the first doctor's appointment was going to give us DOUBLE the beans to spill! But I'm getting ahead of myself...For the first part of this story, let's share how we found out!

(Sorry in advance it is a little wordy...apparently I like telling stories! Plus, there are lots of people who don't know the story yet, so enjoy! For those of you that do...well, read it anyway - cause it is just awesome!)

We had planned a weekend with some of the greatest friends on the planet - the weekend was already destined for EPICness

But first, a little bit of back story:

The week or so leading up to that weekend, I had been sorta tired and slightly moody perhaps (although Tadd would tell you it was a LOT more than slightly) but I didn't think too much of it. I had been having allergy issues and was unable to take allergy meds for a couple of weeks while waiting to go to the allergist for testing, so I just didn't put a whole lot of stock into the tired bit. And let's be honest, moody and hormonal are just sort of a norm around here. And yes, a little bit too much info for some, but we were late...by about 5 days. But no, I was not getting my hopes up this time. There have been many times before I was COMPLETELY convinced I had to be pregnant, to only take a test, have it be negative, have a meltdown, and start the next day.

SO anyway, we made the journey down to the big city to visit our great pals. Yes, the weekend was of EPIC proportions. Not only for the news we got, but because we love those friends so much! It had been too long since we'd seen them. We did nothing terribly exciting. To be honest, we stayed in our pajamas and cozies the whole weekend. Showering was optional. Great conversation and tons of laughs were mandatory.

One of those conversations brought up the fact I had been getting up at 4 am for the last week and a half to go to the bathroom. Something that was NOT okay in my book. I'm a good sleeper - and to be interrupted for the trivial bathroom break was so not nice!! Our friends joked about "You must be pregnant"...and "We have an extra pregnancy test if you wanna see". We all kind of laughed about it. Later that afternoon, us gals went to do some shopping (yes, in our cozies and unshowered - don't judge!) the conversation naturally turned to all of the symptoms I was having that indicated we could be pregnant. I just wouldn't let myself get my hopes up.

Sunday came around, and of course, pregnancy was on my brain. I couldn't stop thinking about it. So I asked Tadd if he thought we should take one or just wait until we got home and see what happened. But by now, I was a full week late. Tadd's response was, "Well, if you can take it and be okay with the result. I don't want a negative result to ruin our weekend." Such a helpful husband! haha (truly he is, that just was not the definitive answer I was hoping for)

So we went for it. The friends brought us their extra test (Yep, we are that close of friends, we give out pregnancy tests to each other and take them at their house...No big deal) I went upstairs. To be honest I was a little nervous. I'd taken them before, but #1, never with an audience. #2, never someplace other than my own bathroom. And #3, I was a week late...a girl always worries.

After taking the test, I was......CONFUSED!!! What the heck did it mean?
Yes it tells you one line-NOT pregnant. Two lines=pregnant...

But what kind of lines? Thick lines? Thin lines? Dark lines? Light lines? In case any of you wondered, all lines are not created equal.

I cleaned off the test, walked down the stairs to expecting faces. I simply said, "I don't know what this means".

I walked over and showed my friend. Her smile grew and grew, she looked at me and said,
"YOU'RE PREGNANT! That's exactly what mine looked like."

I walked over to Tadd who was sitting on the couch. Crawled up in his lap and showed him the test. He'd already heard the news, but I told him again anyway.

"We are pregnant."

And that's when the laughter started. The tears strolling down both of our cheeks, Tadd said something about being a dad, but mostly he just laughed. A deep big belly laugh. It was a laugh I will never forget. One that lasted at least 10 minutes - without stopping even a little bit. He really did not expect that test to be positive. There had been lots of others. All negative. But not this one...it was absolutely most definitely positive.

We were PREGNANT!

After the laughter stopped, Tadd stared at the wall for a good 45 minutes! I kept asking if he was okay. He simply responded with "Uh-huh" and a blank stare.

The rest of the weekend flew by much too quickly. But it's one we will never forget. Who could forget these awesome faces?!

No, but really, these are the greatest friends we could ask for. Who else lets you come stay at their house and doesn't care that you don't shower or get dressed? Who else gives you a pregnancy test and insists you take it? We could think of no better way to find out!

Whew, so there you have it! There is that story. We have lots more to go. How we told people, pregnancy tidbits, and of course...the doctor's appointment!! All in good time. I really do promise this time to keep up and deliver on that this time!
